Cigar Review: Casa Fuente House Cigar Series 5 807

Size: Double Robusto
Wrapper: Sumatra
Binder: Dominican
Filler: Dominican
Bought for me by family that went to Las Vegas.

It’s funny how the difference in what I am reviewing has gone from the last several weeks. Finishing my stint of checking out cigars from bigger player in the industry, I recently reviewed my new favorite value cigar. Looking through my humidor for this week’s review, my humidor didn’t have a lot of variety. Lots of value and all of it I have reviewed in the past. However, one cigar stuck out on the top rack of the humidor. It’s the band on the cigar that helps distinguish it: Casa Fuente Cigars. I’m sure the majority of you reading know about Casa Fuente Cigar Club in Las Vegas and their exclusive house cigar. I had family visit Las Vegas a few months ago and brought me back a few cigars as gifts. As my wife and I’s favorite place in Las Vegas, I am intimately familiar with their house cigars. Seeing that I needed a cigar to review this week, this is as good as any to take notes on and enjoy. This is one that I am not going to score. This is a premium, expensive, once every couple of years smoke (because of my distance to Las Vegas). Think of this review as preliminary intel on when you next visit Las Vegas =)

I found no construction issues with the cigar, either from the wrapper or the feeling of overpacking within the cigar itself. The pre-light notes hinted at leather and some sort of sweet smell which I couldn’t place. After a punch and light, I was met with an open draw and starting flavor notes of strong wood, spice around the palette and a bit of pepper in the middle of the tongue. The strength of this cigar is somewhere between medium and medium-to-full bodied. The pepper notes died down after 10 minutes or so but the remaining flavors stayed in the forefront of the palette for the rest of the smoking time. The halfway point of the cigar intensified the wood by quite a bit, making it the predominant flavor while the spice was more of an aftertaste. Ending at medium-to-full body, the total smoking time was 1:19.

I encountered zero problems with the cigar. The burn was even and at a nice tempo. The ash held well and I had no relights. After some research into the House Cigar, I realized that this was the first Sumatra version I have smoked. The gold ribbon was the giveaway. When we have visited Casa Fuente in the past, we have always enjoyed the blend with the orange ribbon. Maybe it was the room or being in Las Vegas, but I remember the House Cigar being much stronger (full bodied). With all that being said, it was great to be able to smoke a Casa Fuente House Cigar once again and look forward to my next opportunity to do so.

To recap the Casa Fuente House Cigar Series 5 807:

  • Should you find yourself visiting Las Vegas, make a point to go to Casa Fuente. Have a few of their house drinks and enjoy a cigar there.
  • If you are wanting a cigar in the medium bodied range, this one is a nice one to start with.

As always, thank you very much for reading and I look forward to the next time I can share my thoughts with you.

Since the price tag is no available, I sort of scares me to think the price of this beauty. None the less, if I do see it, k might save it for a special ocassion

I was wondering what the difference was with the gold banded one as well, thanks for clearing it up. I’m waiting on the right occasion to light this one up though i think I have it in a different size.
