I hope everyone had a safe and happy New Years. I wasn’t able to ring in the New Year with a cigar as I was working that evening (music gig) but New Years night brought about a quiet evening of drinks and cigars with my wife. Looking through the humidor that evening, I came upon a single La Flor Dominicana La Nox. I remember I bought a few of these back in November but got busy with other review cigars. I smoked one in December on an off-night, remembered that I enjoyed it, but never followed through on taking notes. So while my wife was enjoying her adult time with her wine and cigar (regardless of what day it was), I took a few notes on the La Nox.
No construction issues were found with the cigar. The dark, Brazilian Maduro wrapper had a bit of an oily look to it, which always appeals to me. The pre-light aromas were a fantastic mix of dark coffee, cocoa and nuts. The punch and light gave me an open draws and opening notes of heavy spice, mocha and leathery notes. I loved the heavy spice notes right at the beginning of the cigar but they died out very quickly – right at the eight minute mark of the cigar, leaving me with the mocha and leather notes at a medium bodied strength point. With about a third left to smoke in my La Nox, I noticed the strength begin creeping up, giving me more mocha, leather notes with coffee aftertastes to finish out the cigar. The growing flavor notes and slight increase in strength was like someone turning a volume knob from a six to an eight. It was noticeable but not overbearing in anyway. Total smoking time was 1:54.
No construction issues were found with the La Nox, barring a relight or two.

To recap the La Flor Dominicana La Nox:
- Before the La Nox, the first cigar I would think about when someone said “La Flor Dominicana” is the Double Ligero Chisel. Now, the Double Ligero Chisel has company.
- This is a great cigar offering by La Flor Dominicana, maybe because it’s different from the few LFD that I have smoked in the past. Refined, subdued, but stately all describe this cigar.
- Because this starts at medium bodied in strength, the La Nox can be enjoyed by all levels of cigar smokers.
- It’s a little bit past my comfortable price point ($10) but definitely worth the money spent on it.
- I will have to work in a few of these into my humidor, at least after I get a handful of each of my favorite cigars from last year.
Thank you very much for reading and I look forward to the next time I can share my thoughts with you.
I don’t smoke enough LFDs. I will smoke this one
Great review, I know Keith is a big fan of LFD. I have smoked a few and enjoyed them but that last third always kicks my ass and scares me. Maybe need to try again.
