The Avo brand of cigars is not one that I regularly purchase. It’s not that I have anything against them. For whatever reason, it’s just not a brand that comes up in my mind as something to get. I think if I were to get out to my local B&Ms more, they would get onto my radar more regularly. And finally they did. The Avo Syncro seemed to appear in my Twitter timeline quite a bit in the last month or so, enough to where I made a mental note to pick one up the next time I saw one. And sure enough, I was fortunate (and actively remembered) to acquire one.
No construction issues were found with the Synchro I bought for review. Pulling the cigar out of its plastic wrapping, I got incredibly strong pre-light aromas of a farm with a touch of dried berry on the cold draw. After the cut and light, I got a nicely balanced draw with opening mild spice notes that hit the front of the palette, followed by wood and earthy flavors. I would characterize the starting strength of this cigar as medium bodied and very smooth and easy to smoke. The spice notes began diminishing heavily at the 17 minute mark. The wood notes from the start of the cigar began to grow in strength at the halfway point, accompanied by faint notes of leather and earth. Asa the cigar smoked down towards its finale, the strength grew into the medium-to-full bodied range. The almost overpowering flavor of wood was how the cigar finished out its life, timed at a longer 2:04.
The big issue I had with this cigar was the burn. I know I had to correct uneven burns at least three times while smoking. Add to that a relight or two and it became more of a chore to just smoke the cigar. I’m sure I was just unlucky in this regard but it is what it is.

To recap the Avo Syncro Fogata:
- This is the first cigar in awhile that really didn’t do much for me. I enjoyed the strength of the cigar and the initial flavor profile, but I felt it really didn’t go anywhere after that.
- I think newer smokers could enjoy this cigar, especially if they like longer smokes. However, the price point may put this out of range for some cigar smokers as I think you can find similar sticks to this for less.
- From this review alone, I probably wouldn’t reach for one of these unless I could find a good deal on them. With that said, I will give this a second look in the future or even try a different vitola to see if anything changes.
Thank you very much for reading. I look forward to the next time I can share my thoughts with you.
