Cigar Bar Nolensville

When the heat turns up in the Summer, or when old man Winter sets up shop for the Christmas holidays, we siblings of the leaf like to venture indoors to comfortably enjoy our affinity. However, it is not always easy to find cigar friendly venues. Typically we make a venture to the local smoke shop, and that’s great. But more times than not there will only be sofas and chairs and a couple of other friends (or soon-to-be friends). As for food and drink, I hope you brought some, or have something for delivery on speed dial.

IMG_9502Fortunately there are some places around the nation that are starting to crop up that deliver on all fronts: food, drinks, and cigars. Why can’t we enjoy a steak dinner while smoking a cigar indoors as the bartender is mixing us a drink? This is America, and not only am I going to have my cake, but I’m going to eat it too!

I live in Nashville. But that’s actually more of a technicality, as I really live on the border of two counties: Davidson (in which Nashville resides) and Williamson (a more affluent county revolving around the cities of Franklin and Brentwood). Nolensville, however, is a small town on the far east side of the county, and only now boasts a population of 5,800. It is a great small town with an Amish store and several antique shops along it’s main road, but it is growing and this town with one stop light has a great place for cigar lovers called Cigar Bar & Bistro (or Cigar Bar Nolensville).

Rhonda Tallent, and her husband Carroll Davis, opened Cigar Bar in January 2012. Originally, there was some hesitation by some local board members to give this establishment the town’s first liquor license, so the couple by-passed the hesitant ones and went straight to the state of Tennessee, who in turn gave them their liquor license. Now Cigar Bar operates as a full bar to compliment its kitchen.

IMG_9513IMG_9516IMG_9520But what would Cigar Bar be without cigars? Well, they not only allow cigar only smoking inside, but they also have a nice 100 square foot walk-in humidor. Inside, you’ll find all the usual suspects: ToraƱo, Gurkha, CAO, and Fuente just to name a few. They even have private lockers for those who want them.

IMG_9527IMG_9511 IMG_9538Cigar Bar has several options for seating. They have a lounge area with sofas, chairs and television, a bar, a counter with stools, and several high tops with stools, in addition to outdoor seating. It’s a very comfortable place and accommodates plenty.

IMG_9529 IMG_9537 IMG_9530Throughout the week, they have basic food: pizzas, corndogs, and seasonal items. Their dessert list is always changing as well depending on what is fresh from harvest, so you have to check the board to know what the day holds. But one thing that is always a crowd favorite is the Saturday night grill. You can have a ribeye or bone-in pork chop along with two sides. It’s always a great time to meet new friends with a great meal and cigar. So if you find yourself in Nashville and want to head off the beaten path, head over to Nolensville and check out Cigar Bar!

The Hippie

Having grown up in the South, The Hippie was no stranger to tobacco. Although a city boy, his farming cousins were anything but, and visiting them frequently allowed him to watch the process of tobacco grow from seedling to harvest to curing in the barns. Both grandfathers enjoyed a pipe, and that opened up a new door to a more fragrant and sophisticated way to smoke. The smell was intoxicating. Then in the 90s, prominent athletes and actors really started to endorse cigar smoking. Just like pipe tobacco, the smell was unique and enjoyable, and promoted a more cultured way to enjoy tobacco. Remembering Michael Jordan and Scotty Pippen smoking cigars after winning another championship for the Chicago Bulls, or seeing actors like Jack Nicholson made cigar smoking mainstream. Friends, too, were enjoying cigars and the passion had started. Everything else is, as they say, history. He was a regular contributor to Tiki Bar Online before being a founding member of Leaf Enthusiast.
