It’s time for the 4th installment in this ongoing series looking at the 2017 releases from the Saints and Sinners Club, a “private social club” for Tatuaje and L’atelier fans. I’ve covered some information about the club and how they cigars came to be in my possession in an earlier article, which you can read HERE.
Now it’s time to get to what I already know are my favorite two sticks in this 5-pack. #s 4 and 5 are both Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro wrapped sticks. Ask just about anyone I know…say “Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper made in the My Father factory” and you have my attention immediately. Add on that “it’s a Tatuaje” and I’m almost 100% going to enjoy it.

Getting ready for this smoking experience, I was actually happy that this was just a Robusto and really the smallest cigar in this Saints and Sinners Club 2017 collection. I was yawning bigly and felt ready to take a nap…or just go to bed completely before sundown. The last few months has been extraordinarily tiring with the building up of my freelance business while continuing to work full-time at Burns, fighting through a bad cold, trying to continue to keep pace with these blog pages, and all the other responsibilities that life has. It feels like something has to give soon. In the meantime, I wasn’t going to miss out on an overcast Sunday afternoon to enjoy a fantastic Maduro stick and maybe some Bourbon.
It was not a surprise when the pre-light draw of this cigar was semi-sweet, with notes of cocoa powder, coffee and earth. Not a surprise to me, anyway, since Pete Johnson’s Broadleaf blends are almost always that way.
Lighting up, the cigar had almost a brownie sweetness, mixed with espresso bean and dark earth. The finish and the nose both had fairly strong pepper spice components.
I elected to pair it with some of the last of my whiskey from my Maker’s Mark Ambassador bottles…well, my second of three bottles…the third of which I had no real plans to open anytime soon. I may have a couple small pours or one big pour left in this bottle. Although I’m learning to appreciate a wide range of whiskies and beers, Maker’s Mark is a simple, clean, comfortable Bourbon to fall back on.
Based on size and flavor, I’m thinking this SnS #4 is actually a Pork Tenderloin. It certainly tastes like it and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The Bourbon accentuated the sweetness inherent in the cigar quite nicely.
