Background
The guys at the shop handed me this cigar from the ones they got at the show since they know I like LFD cigars. Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be any info on the web about this cigar. I’m going to guess, based on the way it looks, that it is just a new smaller size of the cigar released in 2015. This was the first one of these I smoked.
Prelight
The band seemed to be simply a scaled down version of the first cigar. The wrapper was a ruddy brown in color with some golden flecks to it. The wrapper showed a bit of oil and tooth to it as well. When I gave it a squeeze it was fairly firm without any soft spots. When I put my nose to the wrapper I noted the aroma of leather, with barnyard and cedar coming from the foot? After clipping and taking a cold draw on it I got an ok draw with some light cocoa flavors.
Flavor
It starts off with some spice, leather and cinnamon flavors. It starts off at medium-full strength. When I moved into the second third the spice was still present with the flavors of leather, wood and earth, all with a slightly sweet finish. It stayed at medium-full strength. There wasn’t a lot of change in flavor as the cigar moved into the final third. The spice did build a bit. The strength stayed the same as well.
Construction
At the beginning the draw was a little tight and the burn was a little wavy. Towards the end the draw opened up a bit and the burn wasn’t too bad.
Value
Since I can’t find the what the MSRP is I can’t say what my thoughts on its value are. If it is a little less expensive than the toro then it’d probably be a decent value.
Conclusions
I don’t know why, but the La Nox blend doesn’t do a lot for me. I was wondering if this new smaller size would grab me but it didn’t. I know that the toro size has been popular in the shop so I hope that this size will be as well.
