I had a wedding to attend recently that was in St. Louis. After the ceremony concluded, I made a point to swing by the Hill Cigar Co., my favorite B&M in the area. The problem I have had however, with two kids and higher music committments from both my wife and I, it’s been at least 18 months since my last visit. What I thought would be a quick pickup of cigars turned into a couple hour hang with the owner, Tim. While getting caught up with everything going on, he introduced me to the cigar I am reviewing now. The HVC Edición Especial 2015 and the rest of the cigars from HVC Cigars have been a huge hit at the shop. After smoking one at the shop and being blown away, I bought a few more for the purposes of a review.
I found no construction issues with the cigar I set aside for review. The pre-light aromas reminded me of hay and tilled soil and the cold draw gave me notes of leather and touches of some sort of dark berry. The punch and light gave me a balanced draw with opening flavor notes of mocha, leather and a nice finish of spice that hit the back molar areas of the palette. This is a full bodied cigar through and through with that is rich but full on the palette. 13 minutes in, the spice mellowed a bit among the mix of flavors. By the halfway point, it was noticeable that the whole cigar increased in strength. More of everything. And by the last quarter of the cigar, the strength increased even a touch more, with fuller leather notes to finish out the smoking time of 1:16.
The review cigar gave me zero problems. The burn was perfect, the cigar never went out nor did the draw give me any problems. The HVC Edición Especial 2015 made a big impression on me and I have a feeling that I will be thinking about this cigar at the end of the year.

Construction: 2/2
Flavor: 4.5/5
Value: 1/1
Total: 9.5/10
To recap the HVC Edición Especial 2015:
- Phenomenal full bodied cigar. Very reminiscent to me of a CroMagnon which are high honors in my book.
- This isn’t likely the cigar for newer smokers.
- And it’s under $10 a cigar. Yes!
- My wife and I are going to be visiting the Hill Cigar Co. this weekend and more will be purchased. I can see a box of these sometime in my future as well.
Thank you very much for reading and I look forward to the next time I can share my thoughts with you.
Cigar of the year potential, $10 price point. I would say that is an all around winner. Thanks for introducing this one, have never seen or heard of it before.
