Cigar Review: Bad Principles by Principle Cigars

Have you ever had one of those weeks where things really get mucked up?  Well, forgoing the “woe is me”, let’s just say that was my week last week.  And this week has been spent putting said muck back into place.  And it’s time like these where you need a quick smoke and then get back at it.  So I grabbed a short smoke from my humi to enjoy and review.

Like my review last month, this cigar is also from the new cigar company Principle Cigars.  This blend is known as “Bad Principles” and is their introductory line.  My smoke is a short 4″ Petit Corona Dominican Puro with a corojo wrapper.  I also paired it with Zaya rum neat because, well, I also needed a drink.  Ha!

Bad Principles

Bad Principles 1

The first thing I noticed about this cigar, was the nice and neat construction.  The next was the barnyard smell.  Very natural and organic.  Thirdly, was the cold draw had a bit of the barnyard with hay.

Lighting up I immediately enjoyed some spice, like allspice and nutmeg with pepper.  I even a bit of graham cracker in the taste.  Following that was a smooth transition into leather.  Wrapping up the cigar, the leather became rather muted with just the tiniest bit of coca to finish up the cigar.

Bad Principles 4

The cigar was a nice little smoke that was enjoyable despite being a quick smoke.  It had a nice burn, plenty of smoke, one of the best draws in a long time, and plenty of flavor.  The only thing was the flavors were a bit muted for my taste near the end, but otherwise, this is a great medium/medium-strong smoke with a great price point of ~$5.  If you decide to pick it up, I’d suggest you give it a shot.   I don’t know for sure what local stores have picked it up, but I know they partnered with Hard Rock Nashville during CMA fest last week as evidenced by their Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts.

(In full disclosure, I purchased my Principle Cigar ashtray to support a new, local cigar company.  It was not a gift, or quid pro quo. )

The Hippie

Having grown up in the South, The Hippie was no stranger to tobacco. Although a city boy, his farming cousins were anything but, and visiting them frequently allowed him to watch the process of tobacco grow from seedling to harvest to curing in the barns. Both grandfathers enjoyed a pipe, and that opened up a new door to a more fragrant and sophisticated way to smoke. The smell was intoxicating. Then in the 90s, prominent athletes and actors really started to endorse cigar smoking. Just like pipe tobacco, the smell was unique and enjoyable, and promoted a more cultured way to enjoy tobacco. Remembering Michael Jordan and Scotty Pippen smoking cigars after winning another championship for the Chicago Bulls, or seeing actors like Jack Nicholson made cigar smoking mainstream. Friends, too, were enjoying cigars and the passion had started. Everything else is, as they say, history. He was a regular contributor to Tiki Bar Online before being a founding member of Leaf Enthusiast.

Never heard of this one. Great size for a quick smoke and a good price point.

I really like the band and the amount of Pictures. The Wrapper looked nice and smooth, and it seems like its a great little stick. Plus that ash tray looks badass.

A cigar I have not heard anything about before. Will have to look for it, sounds like an interesting smoke. I do know Zaya and have a few bottles of that under my belt.

First I’ve heard of this line. Nice review, size wise looks like a good coffee cigar in the morning. Nice choice in Rum, Zaya is one of my favorites.
