Similar to the Avo Syncro Fogata that recently left me a bit disappointed, the Caldwell Blind Man’s Bluff seemed to come up in my Twitter stream, in conversations with my cigar smoking friends, and even when I was playing an on-line game (was logging off mentioning as I was leaving to go smoke a cigar and one of the guys playing asked if I had tried one yet). I vowed that the next time I would see someone mention it that I would just order some and see what the fuss was about. That actually didn’t take very long to happen.

I found no problems with the outward appearance of the cigar used for review nor did I come across anything that would tell me that it had been built improperly. The pre-light aromas consisted of leather and tilled soil while the cold draw gave me very faint hints of spice. The punch and light gave me a very open draw with this Blind Man’s Bluff. The opening flavor notes consisted of spice and pepper; the spice went around the palette while the more duller pepper stayed to the front of the palette. Both flavors began fading at the 11 minute mark while new notes of leather and mild coffee crept in at the 19 minute mark. Around the halfway point was when the peppery notes began returning. In the last third, I found a stronger intensity of flavors with coffee, leather and wood. Total smoking time was 1:34.

No problems were encountered in the smoking of the Blind Man’s Bluff, beside a minor burn correction and relight near the end. This is a cigar that starts out at a pleasant medium bodied strength and gradually pushes all the way into full bodied range.

To recap the Caldwell Blind Man’s Bluff:

  • The Caldwell Blind Man’s Bluff was a welcome change to my recent exploits into 6×60 cigars. I enjoyed the depth of strength and the nice compliment of flavors.
  • I think you could probably give newer smokers this without too many complaints, minus maybe the size.
  • Under $10 a cigar. Always a positive for me.
  • This is one I will consider again, especially if I can find them on sale somewhere. And like the Avo Syncro Fogata, I think it would behoove me to try this in another size.

Thank you very much for reading and I look forward to the next time I can share my thoughts with you.
