Cigar gifted to me.
The next cigar up for review comes courtesy from a friend and bandleader. Steve manages one of the top entertainment and marketing companies here in the St. Louis area. As a longtime sub in his groups, we have on more than one occasion exchanged cigars since he knew I partook. Recently, he was kind enough to share a special treat with me that I have not had the priviledge of smoking: a Cohiba Supremos Edicion Limitada 2014. Because of the steep price tag (especially in the last few years it seems), my exposure to Cuban cigars has been limited to maybe once or twice a year if I am lucky. And when it comes to Cuban cigars, the majority of my Cuban smoking time has been to the Montecristo 2s and 4s. Needless to say, I was excited to give this one a shot.
The problem with receiving cigars on a gig is sometimes you don’t have time to put them somewhere safe. This was one of those times, so unfortunately, into my pocket it had to go for the couple of hours. We had about an hour to kill on this particular gig where I could have smoked the cigar but I wanted to give it a proper examination. So because of this, the bottom portion of the wrapper is a little bit missing, so I took off a half point for my own fault. The pre-light aromas were some of the best I have had this year with an interesting mix of cedar and cinnamon. The cold draw brought dried fruit and wood. Because of the ring gauge, I opted for a punch with this cigar and was not disappointed with the open draw upon lighting. The opening flavors consisted of an incredibly strong woody flavor, spice notes that hit along the sides of the tongue and a peppery aftertaste. The woody notes take a very firm front seat, coupled with a strong medium bodied strength. From there, the picture of strength and flavors more or less stay the same for awhile. 30 minutes in, I noticed the woody notes began growing over the palette while the rest of the flavors began to subdue. In the last 20 minutes, the overall strength began to rise while the wood flavors coupled with a bit of the pepper finished out the remaining cigar. Total smoking time was a quick 1:08.
Besides the listed wrapper issue at the beginning of the review, I encountered no problem with the Cohiba. The only thing I feel I could nitpick at was that the cigar felt like it smoked a little bit on the quicker side. All in all, this is one fine example of a medium bodied cigar and was a pleasure to be able to smoke this cigar.

To recap the Cohiba Supremos Edicion Limitada 2014:
- This cigar has a fantastic balance of flavor and strength. While this cigar for us Americans is a little bit harder to acquire, this cigar could be enjoyed by all ranges of cigar smoker.
- For what you are paying for this cigar, it’s worth it in my opinion. I’ve payed more for cigars in Vegas and with one exception, I would take this one anytime.
- If I were in the market for Cubans, I would certainly consider this one with at least splitting the box with a friend to take some of the financial burden away.
A huge thanks to my friend and bandleader Steve once again for the gift of this cigar. Thanks for reading. I look forward to the next time I can share my thoughts with you.
