Trompeta, 5.5” x 54 ring gauge / MSRP, $8.95

Today I will be reviewing the latest release from Edgar Hoill, the second version of the One Shot One Kill cigar This one made by Fabricas Unidas but blended completely by Edgar himself. This cigar is a Nicaraguan puro as well. Edgar gave me a couple of these of different sizes to try and said that this was his favorite size in the blend. It comes in 4 sizes, the 3 sizes the original EH cigar came in with the addition of a 6.5″ x 60 cigar. Like the EH it comes in 10 count boxes, but the box has a bandana wrapped around it that can be used as a shelf talker in the shop. I smoked at least one of every size except the 6.5×60 before the one I reviewed.

The cigar definitely looks different than the original OSOK cigar. The wrapper is a bit rougher and the color isn’t as even. The band is in your face, very much like Edgar’s art. The wrapper was a medium brown in color with some golden hues to it. When I gave it a squeeze there were no soft spots with a slight amount of give. Putting my nose to the wrapper I got the aroma of barnyard with a more intense barnyard coming from the foot. After clipping it and taking a cold draw I got notes of cinnamon and cocoa with a good draw.

The cigar starts off with chocolate and leather with some red pepper spice on the retrohale. The draw was great and it produced a large volume of smoke. The cigar was medium-full to start off with. As I moved into the cigar I started to get some graham notes from it as well. The burn was slightly off, but that was probably due to a bad light by me.

As I moved into the second third the spice started to die out a bit. The draw continued to be perfect and the burn straightened itself out with only a little help from my lighter. The flavors in this third changed to coffee and earth with a hint of green herbal spice and a maple like sweetness on the finish.

IMG_0818The final third saw the cigar finish off strong. The flavors changed slightly again with a lot of creaminess coming through at the start of the draw and some cocoa notes coming through on the finish. The spice started to build back up and I started to get a slight nicotine hit from it as well. The draw and burn continued to be perfect.

Overall I really enjoyed this cigar. I liked it more than the EH of the same size as well. I do think that most people will be able to appreciate it as it didn’t really get into the full range. I would recommend picking one up to try when you find one.

  1. I have only had a very small handful of the EH lines they just aren’t in my area. I have liked everything I had so far. I enjoy smoking Shaggy foot cigars, I like to see the flavor change when the wrapper kicks back in.. This is a great contest and you guys are my go to site when it comes to Cigar reviews…. Great job

@czerbe (Twitter) but you both already knew that!

  2. Haven’t had one of these yet, but the flavor profile looks right up my alley. If you messed up the light on this foot, I can’t imagine how bad I’d torch it! Love that band though.

  3. That is one very shaggy foot on the cigar, looks like someone tried to light it caveman style by twirling it on the floor 😀 (Shoutout to /u/sequenc3 here)

  4. Great Contest Keith. Cigars look great and would dig having them in the humidor. You can contact me at @citruswalkCC on twitter

  5. Thanks for the review and for the contest. I was dissapointed at the resurrection of the name OSOK with a changed recipe. Seemed a little idk….not quite deceiptful, but not entirely upfront either. It’s hard enough to get solid dope about particular cigars – I don’t like it when confusion is assisted by the manufacturers/blenders.
I’m glad it’s a solid cigar — I will keep an eye out and try at next opportunity
