The second cigar that I picked at my local B&M is another unknown to me. What caught my eye with this cigar was the big ring gauge while what appeared to be a Connecticut-type wrapper. Usually when I’m looking for a mild to medium strength cigar, I’m considering a robusto size as I only have about an hour to smoke. I didn’t any imperfections with the cigar when I took it out of the plastic but I did notice a crack in the wrapper after the halfway point of the cigar. That didn’t have any affect on its smoking at all thankfully. I detected notes of hay and straw pre-light but nothing else.
After a punch and light, I took my first few draws and was greeted with flavors of dull pepper and what I would consider straw. The draw was great with the punch; the dull pepper flavor was subtle and only stuck around for about five minutes before going into the background. Starting out, I would classify this cigar as mild to medium in strength. As the cigar moved on, the strength jumped up to a medium-bodied right around the halfway point and stayed there for the rest of the cigar’s smoking time. That smoking time clocked in exactly at an hour and a half. Despite the strength increase of the Don Sixto, the finish on this cigar is very short. I honestly can’t even tell that I have smoked the cigar in terms of tasting it.
About ten to fifteen minutes into smoking the cigar, I noticed the burn was starting to get slightly uneven but it ended up correcting itself by the halfway point.
To recap the Don Sixto Grande:
- A mild to medium bodied cigar that increased to a medium bodied cigar after the halfway point. The strength of this cigar would be appropriate for all cigar smokers.
- The Don Sixto is not a complex cigar in terms of flavors but the flavors it does have make for a pleasant smoke.
- Like the Tabaco Ramones review, the price point for this cigar is on the high side coming in at $8.54 per stick.
As always, thank you very much for reading and I look forward to the next time I can share my thoughts with you.
