It is a beautiful 70 and sunny here in East Tennessee this Saturday morning. I know it has been a while since I have done a review, but with weather like this, I figure its a good a time as any to change that.
The cigar I will be reviewing today is one that we have done a cigar extra for, not too long ago. It is the robusto size of the Melete incarnation of the La Musa line, brought
to us by Emilio Cigars.
To make a long story short, the La Musa is a rebranding of the Grimalkin line that Emilio brought us. The Melete is the second blend to be released under this line, the first being the Mousa.
Now, let’s get down to business.
Pre light
The first thing I notice is the firmness of this cigar. Its almost like a rock. It has a very silky wrapper leaf, with no noticeable veins to be seen. The cold draw is perfect, which was a relief due to the firmness. One strange thing is the lack of any cold draw flavors, oh well, I like mine with heat anyway.
First third
As the picture illustrates, there were some minor burn issues. It wasn’t anything too terrible, but there none the less. Flavor wise, this thing starts out great. Its what I would call mild-medium bodied, but full flavor. It has lots of leather, and almost like a hay type flavor, but in a good way. Good start for the day.
Second third
Very consistent. Honestly, there isn’t a ton of development to be noticed here, with the exception of a little pepper in the nose. The lack of change isn’t a bad thing for me though, its staying consistently good. I can handle that.
Final third
The spice has picked up slightly again, and there is a little bit of sweetness that comes through towards the end. Other than that, it has stayed very consistent throughout. Good cigar.
Conclusion
At the 8-9 dollar price point, I believe this to be a good one to try. I personally would not go out and buy a box, but that’s just because I prefer a stronger cigar. For my
first of the day though, I would definitely go back to this one. Great flavors, but it won’t saturate your palate. Go buy a couple and try them out for yourself.
