This year is wrapping up rather quickly. The challenge for my wife and I right now is the schedule. She’s a music teacher and is finishing up all of her plays, winter parades and concerts while with me being a freelance musician, I have my own performances to contend with. So our challenge right now is simply being home long enough to relax, let alone do anything constructive…like smoking a cigar. Although I will say that I get my cigar time in sometimes at the sacrifice of sleep, but that’s splitting hairs. My next review comes from the brand headed by Steve Saka of Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust. You might remember my review of his Sobremesa. It was a strong favorite of this website all around last year, and it is still loved today in my house. It was with great excitement that I was finally able to try them, only to have some of the worst luck follow me. The first smoked like a dream while the next two (both planned for review) were interrupted with matters of a crying child in the late hours of the night. Needless to say, I didn’t feel like I gave it my full attention, so I bought more to enjoy and to have a proper review here.
No construction issues were found on the cigar that I chose for review. The nose gave me aromas of fresh wood and farm life while the cold draw have me faint hints of wood and spice and berry. The bigger ring gauge opted me to punch and after the light, I got a well balanced draw with inital flavor notes of pepper, black coffee and mild wood. This definitely starts near or right on the full bodied range of strength, but the smoking of it is incredibly smooth and easy on the palette. The pepper mellows some after seven to eight minutes leaving the coffee and wood notes. Those flavors begin to increase in the strength by the halfway point. The last third of the cigar brings everything up even more. The coffee notes are stronger and I began to take leathery flavors. The strength is full blown into full bodied territory and I loved every minute of it. Total smoking time was 1:30.
No problems were encountered during the smoking of the Mi Querida.

To recap the Mi Querida by Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust:
- It’s something to be stated that I ordered more of the cigar before I reviewed it. I think that should tell you how good it is. Honestly, if the cigar comes from Steve Saka, you can be sure that it’s going to be great and the Mi Querida is no different.
- This is a full bodied cigar almost immediately from the start, so it may not be for those who prefer milder smokes.
- It’s right under $10 a cigar, which is a fantastic value in my opinion.
- More will likely be bought again in the future, once all the Christmas shopping and replenishment of the bank account happens. And it is certainly in consideration for one of my favorites this year.
Thank you very much for reading. I look forward to the next time I can share my thoughts with you.
