Background

When I was back at the Tweetup I made it a point to walk through the humidor to find things that I can’t get at my regular shop to pick up and try.  Fred (@Godfadr) hustled to get these in stock at Burns in time for the tweetup.  Based on what I was seeing people buying they were a hit.  I picked up a couple from each blend and you’ll see me do a review on some them.  Dave did a preview on a show sample here.  Basically what you’ve got here is a value line, but not a bundle or mixed filler line, so something that fits between that and his regular line.  They come in 3 wrappers (Connecticut, Habano and Maduro) and two sizes (robusto & double toro) and range in price from $7 to $7.50 before local taxes.  The habano is comprised of fillers and binder from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua with an Ecuadorian rosado habano wrapper.  This was the second one of this blend I smoked.

Prelight

The band is definitely a much simpler one than I’ve seen on other Nomad releases.  It doesn’t have the glossy feel or multiple colors.  Basically you have a white background with the ink color letting you know which blend you have, brick red for the habano.  The wrapper was an even reddish brown in color with a good amount of tooth and some oils to it.  When I gave it a squeeze there was a slight amount of give but no soft spots.  Putting my nose to the wrapper I got the aroma of leather with barnyard coming from the foot.  When I clipped it and took a cold draw I got some sweet leather flavors with a good draw.

Flavor

The cigar starts off with lots spice on the tongue and retrohale with flavors of leather and wood along with a sweet finish started to come through after a few puffs.  After a few more puffs I started to get notes of cinnamon from it as well.  The cigar starts off at medium-full strength.  As I moved into the second third the spice definitely started to mellow out.  The flavors changed slightly to leather, cream, earth, wood, cinnamon and hints of curry with the slightly sweet finish still there.  It mellowed out in strength to medium throughout the second third.  When I moved into the final third the spice starting to build in intensity, but never got to where the cigar started out.  The flavors stayed pretty much the same in this final third as they were in the previous third.  It built back to the medium-full rage by the end as well.

Construction

The draw on the cigar was perfect throughout.  The burn was slightly wavy but that could have been due to the slightly gusting wind I experienced while smoking it.

Value

The $8 price point puts this cigar in with a lot of contenders, but I think it won’t have any problems standing up to them.

Conclusions

I really enjoyed this cigar.  I just wish now I would have picked more of them up from Burns.  I will be on the look out for these and will pick more up when I can.  It might not be for those with some nicotine sensitivity though.

I have not smoked any of the Therapy triumvirate but I hope to get my hands on the somehow. Fred is doing good things; offering a real good cigar at an affordable price.
