A few years ago when Dave still lived in So Cal, he became enamored with lancero cigars. Back then the long thin shaped cigars were seemingly hard to find. Few shops carried them Since then several cigar makers have brought lanceros into their product lines.
Ortega has just weighed in with the Wild Bunch Fast Eddie Lancero, a brand new offering in the Wild Bunch line. In fact it is so new that as of this posting nothing about it appears on the Ortega Cigars Official website. I had to consult my local tobacconist (Chad from Islands) to get the particulars. The Fast Eddie is a 6 1/2 X 38 with an Ecuadorian wrapper with Nicaraguan binder and filler.
Looking at the cigar there were a couple of medium sized vanes but nothing to be alarmed about. There is a nice pigtail adorning the head.Once lit, the Wild Bunch displayed great flavors of earth, coffee, and plenty of pepper spice, particularly on the retro-hail. The burn line was straight and the ash for the most part was solid, though in one of the samples the ash began to flower just a bit causing the chunk to go crooked before I tapped it off. Other than looking odd, this did not effect the smoking experience. As I smoked, the spice took a back seat allowing the earth and coffee flavors to take center-stage There was a nice but hard to describe flavor on the finish, sort of like a mint sensation. This added to the overall enjoyment of the cigar.
The Wild Bunch Fast Eddie is a full-bodied cigar that will have great appeal with seasoned smokers. If you are partial to lanceros, you owe it to yourself to give this one a try.
Eddie makes great sticks and I can not wait to try this one I love me some Lanceros!
