I have to say that I have been enjoying David’s exploits into finding the best burger in Orange County. It’s been making me hungry for a good burger, which in the St. Louis area, our choices are rather limited (Five Guys being the best choice in the area for a fast food burger in my opinion). But that’s a topic for another day I think.
In my last post, I discussed picking up some value cigar for everyday smokes. The one that I have been enjoying lately has been the Thunder by Nimish. Discontinued by Rocky Patel, I found the deal on them via an ad from Smoke Inn. Being that Rocky Patel is more or less a ‘household name’ in the cigar world and at $3.30 a stick, I figured the cost was well worth it enough to pick a box up and check them out. Here is what I found out.
No construction issues were found on the Thunder by Nimish that I used for review purposes. The pre-light aroma gave me notes of wood and spices, while the cold draw faint flavors of berry. My choice of going with a torpedo vitola was based partially around the fact that I haven’t smoked many in awhile and would be a welcome change of pace to the toros I have been normally reaching for. The opening flavor notes, after the cut and light, welcomed me with spice, bitter coffee and a balanced draw to start the burning of the cigar. I would classify the strength of the Thunder by Nimish as somewhere medium medium to medium-to-full bodied. The spice mellows around 15 minutes in and slightly stronger notes of coffee take over. By the midway point, the coffee notes are joined wth stronger wood flavors. By the last third, I got much stronger wood flavors and something bitter (almost like a weed of some sort) to finish the cigar out, also noting that it pushes its way right into the medium-to-full bodied range in terms of strength. Total smoking time was 1:24.
No real problems were encountered in my smoking of the Thunder by Nimish. The burn stayed even throughout and required no corrections. The only issue I could bring up was the flavor at the end where I found the bitterness getting to be almost overpowering. Not all the cigars I have smoked from this box (and I have smoked most of them now) gave me this, but many of them have. I’m not sure if the cigar needs to age more, but it’s something to note. All in all, still a good cigar and one that I enjoyed overall.

- A nice complement of flavors on this discontinued Rocky Patel that I think nearly all levels of cigar smokers could enjoy.
- These are a fantastic deal at $66.00 for a box of 20.
- Despite the flavor issues I had at the end, I still enjoyed these and would put them over nearly any value bundle out there. I may try to pick up another box of these before they disappear for good.
