This review for today came in most of the day late, thanks to an every night rehearsal schedule on my part, so I do apologize for the tardiness of this. My friend Matt has over the last year and a half or so supplied me with many cigars to check out, some even for review purposes. You might remember my favorite cigar from last year as one example. On his last trip to the area, one of the cigars he gave me for review was a new Punch that he had come across at one of his local shops in South Dakota. I am more than familar with the Punch Grand Puro that is Honduran; however, this was the first I had seen that was from Nicaragua (minus the wrapper which is grown in the United States). I’ve never been one to turn down nearly cigar for review purposes so I was happy to give this one some time.

Matt only gave me a handful of these to try and thankfully no problems nor construction issues with any occured. The nose or pre-light aromas from the cigar gave off a great mix of wood and molasses notes. The light gave me a balanced draw with opening notes of leather and earth with medium-to-full bodied start. Around a quarter of the way through, I noticed hints of pepper creeping into the flavor profile. The cigar stayed as described through the majority of its smoking. Near the last 1/4 inch of the cigar was when the Nicaraguan Gran Puro began moving up in strength while final notes of earth, leather and cocoa finalized the flavor profile.

Besides a couple of burn corrections, no problems were encountered with the Nicaraguan Gran Puro.

Overall, I enjoyed the cigar but it still comes in a few cigars behind some other favorites from Punch (the Punch Champion still comes to mind). However, with its more than reasonable price tag, this is one you should at least check out if you haven’t yet. Thanks again to Matt for the gift of these cigars to help this cigar short come to fruition.

Score: 8.5/10

Thank you for taking time out of your day to read what I write. I always look forward to the next time I am able to share my thoughts with all of you.
