GOOD MORNIN’!
I hope everyone had a great weekend. Mine started great with many cigars smoked, then I spent a good portion of Sunday at the tire and lube express getting a new tire put on my new car. All that being said, it was overall a great weekend.
Anyway, as I said, I smoked a cigar or three on Saturday. The first one I had that morning is the one i actually did this review on. I jotted all of my thoughts down as I smoked, and i’m gonna re-jot them now here with some more detail. Enjoy!
The location for this smoking experience is a place that is very near and dear to me, as it is the place where I really learned, and developed my love for cigars. Silo Cigars in Farragut, Tennessee is a great shop with great taste in boutique cigars. Because of this fact, I knew I would be able to find an awesome, and not so well know cigar to smoke.
The cigar I chose is one that I am willing to bet a good chunk of people probably have never heard of, I was also in that category. It is called the Hawaiian Vintage Series from Kauai Cigar Company. This boutique company started in the coffee business, and has since ventured into the cigar world. Here is what Kauai has to say regarding the Hawaiian Vintage Series..
Through the passage of time,
and careful selection of tobacco leaf
from Kauai and beyond, a great cigar comes of age.
Like a clock without hands,
time is defined only by taste.
The Hawaiian Vintage Series made by the Kauai Cigar Company, and blended by tobacco farmer, Les Drent, celebrates the days, months, and the years that go into
making a premium cigar.
We invite you to join us for this remarkable journey.

Momona means Sweet and Fat in Hawaiian.
The size I chose for this review was the Momona, mostly because it is the smallest ring gauge. Now lets get on with the smoking.
Prelight
The first this I noticed about this cigar was the wrapper feel. It is very smooth, not a noticeable vein to be felt. The feel construction wise is also great, no knots that i can feel. The nose from the foot is pretty spicy, which is suprising to me coming from Kauai. After cutting, the cold draw is kind of uneventful. Almost no flavor whatsoever. Hopefully this will change once fire is applied.
First third
So, the first thing that jumps out to me is the perfect draw and large amount of smoke. There is also an equally large amount of spice upon the initial few puffs, almost too much for even me. Luckily the spice subsides after a few puffs to a “just right” amount. This thing is
medium in body, but really saturates my entire palate with tons of flavor. The problem is its hard to describe the flavor. At this point Paul, the owner of Silo chimes in. “It tastes like the color green would” he says….. I can’t think of another way to describe it, so we will go with that. Its very floral and creamy. Very different, very good.
Second third
Once I got into this part things start to mix up a little. The pepper is staying consistent, as well as the floral notes, but now there is an awesome sweetness that shows up. The strength is also bumping up to the mid-full range. The flavor profile changes smoothly, but drastically from start to halfway point. This is a great cigar.
Final Third
One thing that I noticed, but didn’t want to jinx myself with was, this thing has a razor sharp burn. The construction was flawless from all I saw. Flavor wise as you finish this cigar, it kind of eases you out of it. The pepper tones down, the floral notes tone down, everything kind of loses some of the intensity, but in a good way.
Conclusion
The best way I can describe this cigar is a chocolate covered flower garden, that has fallen victim to arson, but in the best possible way. I really enjoy this cigar, and highly recommend you get some. At under $11/cigar it really stands out. Follow @SiloCigars or call 865-675-7456 and get your hands on some of these.
