If you’re reading this blog, then I know you know about the annual Tweet-up happening in Chattanooga currently. So between IPCPR just wrapping up, and the Tweet-up in full effect, I’m going to keep this short and sweet. I’m going to do an abbreviated review of something I did on another blog a couple of years ago: the Toraño Loyal.
The Toraño family has a long family history in this industry, and they are known for producing some tasty smokes at some really nice price points. But what happens when tobacco ages? Flavours start to alter. Sometimes for the better. Sometimes just the opposite. So what about the Loyal?
I decided to pull out one of two Loyals I had left in the humidor. One is a churchill, and the other a torpedo. I went with the torpedo.
Initially I thought there would be a bit more flavour, but almost immediately it felt rather flat. Not bad, but the flavours were more one dimensional than when I first had it two years ago. As in – “I started with a sweet hay note that lasted a good while before I got some cedar, then some leather” one dimensional. In addition, the construction of the stick still was right on.
Seeing how the Loyal changed, I would also change my beverage choice. I’d pair it with a white wine, light red, or a vodka drink and not with a bourbon or rum. So with that in mind, you will still have a nice, solid stick at a nice price point.
Thanks for the review. I was wandering if some change for the worse. Now I need to just find what people are great ones to age.
Nice review again and thank you.
Nice review. I have been trying to buy extra sticks and let them age for a bit for comparisons. I teeing note about the beverage choices.
