Background

One trend in the cigar industry that I rather like is that of making small packs (4 or 5 sticks) of short smokes. They are very handy to carry around in your pocket. They are wonderful for when you’re driving around doing errands or a lunch break or for when the weather is too cold for a longer smoke.

Pete Johnson’s other company, L’Atelier, has jumped on that trend in a big way recently, with several offerings. Keith looked at the Surrogates Cracker Crumbs a couple weeks back and today I want to look at the L’Atelier flagship cigar, now available in a petite corona size that comes out to just over $3 per stick. To celebrate what very well could be this winter’s last gasp here in East Tennessee, I thought I’d take a look at one last short smoke

These cigars come in a 5-pack, are composed of Nicaraguan filler with a Sancti Spiritus wrapper (from Ecuador), and I bought mine at Burns Tobacconist.

Notes

Most of these small packs of handmade cigars are traditional in that they require you to cut the end before smoking. These are pre-cut, which I was skeptical about at first, but came to find very convenient.

Prelight draw was excellent and tasted of hay and tobacco, with a touch of natural sweetness.

Once lit I got a mix of sweetness and pepper spice, riding on an earthy core flavor profile.

Can’t say this was the most complex smoke I’ve had in the L’Atelier line, but it was a pleasing smoking experience for 30 minutes or so.

With spring right around the corner for us, I can’t say I’m going to be buying a bunch more of these right away, but I will definitely keep them in mind for late this year when the weather turns cold once again.

I wouldn’t carry them around for long. Won’t they dry out?

I was hoping these would be a decent smoke at that great price and it seems so. Winter lasts a little longer up here in MI, so I have plenty of time to get a couple packs of these in.

I’ll give these a try next winter. Winter isn’t exactly over here in GA, but it seems it’s almost gone, in the 70’s today.
